All physics and mathematics is based on some assumptions which are also called as hypothesis or postulates. For example, the universal law of gravitation proposed by Newton is a hypothesis or assumption.

The universal law of gravitation says that, if we assume that any two bodies in the universe attract each other with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them, then we can explain all the observations in one stroke.

Einstein special theory of relativity is also based on two assumptions, the constancy of speed of electromagnetic radiation (light) and validity of physical laws in all inertial frames of reference. It would not be fair to ask somebody to prove that speed of light in vacuum is constant independent of the source or observer.
